Hey....Not a ton of action at Downeast this week, but I'll share some of the highlights. First off, to any restaurant/bar owners who might be reading this, we will not be adding any new accounts in the next 2 weeks. Fortunately/unfortunately there has been a very high demand for cider, and while we have the capacity to make thousands of gallons a month, our keg supply couldn't keep up. We sold all of our kegs to the distributors, and would hate to have a situation in which we can't provide what we promised. Our new batch of kegs is supposed to ship by the 10th, which is when we will be back on the streets selling.
Our 750 mL bottles are arriving today, and once we have our bottle design cleaned up, we'll get started on bringing the bottles to retail, hopefully by March. If you didn't already know, we will be releasing small batch varietals in 750 mL bottles where we can play with different flavors of cider for whenever you feel like getting a little wild with it. Ben has been playing the role of mad scientist, experimenting with maple syrup, honey, vanilla beans, mint, raspberry leaves, citrus, essential oils, and a million other flavors. We had originally planned on doing a cran-apple, but it's not cranberry season, and the only thing we could get was concentrate, and we will NEVER USE CONCENTRATE. EVER. It looks like cranberry will end up being a seasonal flavor, along with blueberry and anything else we can think of. If you think you have a good idea, leave a comment either here, on facebook, or via email. If you want it, and it tastes good, we're into anything and everything.
As far as our canned packaging goes, we're still fighting the financial battle, but hopefully we'll get moving soon. Our design is nearing completion on the cans, and we're exited to order 204,000 of them, I hope you all like cider...
Last Friday we went down to Boston to chat with Brewbound, a web site devoted to the craft beer, and now cider, industry. They had an amazing office atmosphere that seemed include a shoes-optional policy, as well as a full bar with 7 taps. They were a great group of guys with whom we had the pleasure of discussing the basics of our venture over a few glasses of really good beer. Not a bad way to work. Big thanks to them for some helpful advice for when we bring our cider to Boston.
For the early birds amongst you, we will be a guest on Ray Richardson's radio program on AM 1310 WLOB at around 7:45 Friday morning. If you happen to be in the car, or anywhere with a computer or smart phone, tune in and find out if we become less awkward on live television/radio (spoiler: we won't).
I think I'll end this with a game of guess who. Each one of us did one of these things recently, I'll post answers next week. Feel free to send us your guesses:
1) Supplied the correct answer to the following trivia question at Mainely Brews trivia night: Last week this person made a guest appearance on The View to discuss and promote awareness of heart disease amongst women.
2) Slept on their tile bathroom floor.
3) Found the following note Sunday morning:
